“A Farewell to Arms” is a novel set against the backdrop of World War I and follows the experiences of Frederic Henry, an American ambulance driver serving in the Italian army, and Catherine Barkley, a British nurse. The story chronicles their love affair against the backdrop of the war-torn Italian countryside. As Henry and Barkley navigate the challenges of war and the uncertainty of their future, the novel explores themes of love, loss, and the disillusionment brought about by the brutality of war. Hemingway’s spare and understated prose captures the emotional toll of conflict and the fragile nature of human relationships.
